Turbine
Meters and Accessories
Q
I disassembled my Sentry Series turbine meter and noticed a
notch cut out of the downstream stator next to the rotor. Is it supposed
to be there and if so, what is it for?
A
On most of our
Sentry Series turbine meters, we incorporate a "sand-notch"
into the downstream stator to help prevent damage to the meter due to
particulate matter in the product. The stators are hollow inside and are
pressurized by fluid flow through the meter. (That's what the holes in
the end of the fins are for). By keeping both stator cavities pressurized,
the rotor is hydraulically balanced between the thrust washers. However,
if there is particulate matter in the product, it enters the stator cavities
with the product. The only escape is between the stator and rotor. This
leads to both the rotor and stator being damaged from the particulates
being "ground up" between the two parts. Adding the "sand-notch"
gives the particulates a non-destructive means of escape. For further
details, contact us.
