Q
The PA-4 preamp only had eight (8) terminals and some kind
of resistor across terminals 6 & 7. The PA-6 preamp has ten (10) terminals
with a jumper wire. What's the difference?
A
The older PA-4
required a "desensitizing network" consisting of a resistor
to control input sensitivity from the pickup coil. To change the input
sensitivity, you put a different value resistor across the terminals.
Another aspect of the PA-4 is that you had to wire it differently depending
on your input voltage. If you had 9-14 Vdc, you ran the input power to
terminal 5, but if you had 14-28 Vdc, you ran the input power to terminal
8. With the PA-6, both these "issues" are simplified. To change
the input sensitivity, you either change the "gain strap" jumper
or remove it completely. Also, with the PA-6, you no longer have to change
the wiring depending on the input voltage. Input power ranging from 8-29
Vdc is run into terminal 5. For further details on either the PA-4 or
PA-6 preamps, contact us.
